The popularity of Light Sport Airplanes has increased tremendously in the last couple of years. There are currently (mid-2008) about 1500 Light Sport Aircraft registered in the United States. Here are a few of the current lines of LSAs being offered. The majority of these airplanes are manufactured in Europe, where this type of plane has been popular for years (likely because their fuel prices have ALWAYS been high). Cessna, one of America’s largest and oldest civil aviation manufacturers has no such LSA offered – yet. One is targeted to be available in 2009, but that one will be built in China and is slated to be more expensive than just about anything currently on the market (here’s hoping there are no “lead paint” issues).
