• There are less training requirements for a Sport Pilot Certificate than a Private Pilot Certificate

• It generally costs less because there is less required flight experience time.

• You must be in good health, but can self-certify by having a valid state driver’s license, and do not need to obtain a 3rd Class FAA medical exam.

• If your intended goal is to be a recreational pilot flying during the day, in small planes, and only carrying one passenger, the Sport “ticket” will get you there.

Note that there is no less emphasis on safety. The Sport Pilot Certificate just limits the pilot’s ability to fly under adverse and/or more challenging conditions.
