First trip aloft for my wife in the Ercoupe
by Bill ~ October 25th, 2008. Filed under: Flying Adventures.I took Nancy once around the patch a couple hours ago. She says she will go again and work on getting used to it. I had planned on only once around and that’s what we did. I did fly a longer (than normal, for me) pattern to keep the turns more shallow and (fortunately) greased a landing just beyond the numbers. I was able to keep the Ercoupe in as smooth a decent as possible. Nancy was a bit white-knuckled and was gripping the set edge rather tightly. But she did OK for a very first trip in a small airplane. Next time we might do two trips around – or maybe a (very) short sightseeing flight over the Havre de Grace waterfront. She also did very good with the headset – and that surprised me a bit because some people have a bit of trouble with talking into the microphone – so that was a step in the right direction.
Next trip will be when the winds die down again – supposed to be a bit windy this week. Of course the way the wind and rain and low ceilings have been this fall it could be a looong time before we get go up again in ideal conditions. But – we WILL get there.
